UNIT 8 Fosse Assignmnet Brief

 

 

 

 

Fosse: A celebration in Song and Dance   You will form a company of singers and dancers who will create a tribute to the work of Fosse. Fosse will be performed in The Alfred Hitchcock Theatre on the 6th June at 6.00pm.     The show will incorporate song and dance numbers and extracts from a range of Fosse musicals that celebrate the breadth of Fosse’s work from the 1950’s through to the present day..contribution to American entertainment continued after his death via show revivals and dance classes. His most prominent contribution was through the body of his work recorded on film and video.
Aim   This project will allow you to apply a range of methods and skills used in support of collaborative performance project which you have developed as part of a professional company.     Submission Rules All items in the submission checklist must be finalised and handed in by Wednesday 13th June 2019.   Submission Checklist:

Task 1: Ideas and Background

Based on the specialist area of study you will put together a presentation on the work of Fosse explaining your interests, research and a number of possible creative ideas   Evidence Required:   1.     A 5 minute presentation on your initial research into Fosse and your creative ideas.   Deadline: 1st April

 

Task 2: Proposal

You will needs to analyse the requirement of the final project and summarise these in a project proposal of approximately 500 words.   Evidence Required:   1.    Project Proposal   Your proposal will need to be organized into the following sections:   Section 1 Rationale (approx 150 words) Here you have an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarize your progress and achievements through the first 12 units, and the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your project proposal.   Section 2 Project concept (approx 200 words) This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that will support its development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realisation within the allocated timescale.   Section 3 Evaluation (approx 100 words) This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on, and evaluate, your work, as both an on-going activity and at the conclusion of the project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision-making and how you will document changes to your ideas as work progresses. The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions completed. When working in collaboration with others you should comment on how this may impact either positively or adversely and steps you can take to minimise disruption to your own progress.   2.    Project Action Plan and Timetable   Using the template provided you will compete a project plan and timetable in this you must include an :   Activity List:   This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of weeks and the activities you will need to carry out in order to successfully complete your project in the agreed time frame. The more time and thought you give to planning your project, the more successful it is likely to be. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project.   Resources/What? When and Where?   You should also include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials and other resources to conduct research, seek feedback from tutors and peers, and identify when you will carry out independent study.   Deadline: 22nd April

 

Task 3: Contextual Research

To create an effective tribute to Fosse you will need to apply research techniques to ensure you understand your role and how to apply it effectively within the project.   You will identify research sources, use research to support the development of your ideas and assess the value of research materials in the context of your role and the performance project.   Evidence Required: A research folder which will include:     1.    A 500 -750 word response to guided questions on the social and historical context of Fosse’s work and its contribution to musical theatre and jazz dance.   Deadline : 29th April     2.    Research on the themes and stylistic qualities of Fosse’s work and blog posts on how this has been use to inform your creative ideas and development.     3.    Research on the costume, staging and design of the original productions of the musicals that you will be performing extracts from and blog posts on your contribution to these elements of the production.   4.    A bibliography of the sources of your research (Harvard Format)     Deadline: 24th May

 

Task 4: Practical Skills and Rehearsal Process

Task 5: Performance

You will perform in song and dance numbers and extracts from a variety of Fosse musicals in a tribute celebrating his work.  You must demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of Fosse style and skilfully demonstrate this using physical and vocal skills to communicate your ideas confidently to the audience.   Evidence Required:   1.    A video of your performance in the Fosse Tribute   Deadline: 6th June

 

Task 6: Evaluation

As a performer you must be able to analyse the success of a performance project.  You must critically evaluate the outcomes of your final performance project.   Evidence Required:   1.    An evaluation of the success of your final performance in response to guided questions.  This can be submitted as a written task or recorded.   Deadline: 13th June
