UNIT 8 COLLABORATIVE PERFORMANCE PROJECT THE SPACEMAN-TASKS1-5

THE SPACEMAN BY ROB JOHN. 

Here you will find guidance to assist you in the completion of all of the theory aspects of unit 8.
You will find step by step help to enable you to complete tasks 1-5 to the best of your ability. 

1. TASK ONE: INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION FILMED MONDAY 1ST APRIL 2PM. 

(FILMED AND MUST BE UPLOADED TO YOUR BLOG PAGE WITH TITLE ''TASK ONE-UNDERSTANDING CHARACTERIZATION)

You must put together a proposal of how you plan to develop your character explaining your interests, research and a number of possible creative ideas.

Evidence Required:

1.     A 5 minute presentation on your plans for character development and your creative ideas.

What should my presentation include? 

1. Who is my character? How would you describe them? Look to the language in the play-what does this tell you about them? What relationships do they have with others?

2. What are the given circumstances? (What is the context surrounding the character and the world in which they inhabit?)

3. Your creative interpretation of the character- how are you going to play the character? Comment on voice, gesture, physicality, facial expression, how you will use the space?

4. What rehearsal techniques will you engage in to develop your character and how will they help you?

TASK 2:  PROJECT PROPOSAL-DUE IN TUESDAY 23RD APRIL.

You will need to analyse the requirements of the final project Performing in The Spaceman) and summarise these in a project proposal of approximately 500 words.

Evidence Required:

1.     Project Proposal

Your proposal will need to be organized into the following sections:

Section 1 Rationale (approx 150 words)

Here you have an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarize your progress and achievements through the first 12 units, and the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of pathway and your project proposal.

Section 2 Project concept (approx 200 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that will support its development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realisation within the allocated timescale.

Section 3 Evaluation (approx 100 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on, and evaluate, your work, as both an on-going activity and at the conclusion of the project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision-making and how you will document changes to your ideas as work progresses. The evaluation should be referenced to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather then a description of actions completed. When working in collaboration with others you should comment on how this may impact either positively or adversely and steps you can take to minimise disruption to your own progress.

TASK 3- CONTEXTUAL RESEARCH FOLDER- DUE IN 24th MAY

To create an effective performance you will need to apply research techniques to ensure you understand the historical, social and political context in which the play is set.   You will identify research sources, use research to support the development of your ideas, and assess the value of research materials in the context of your role and the performance project.

Evidence Required:

A research folder.

 It will include:

1. A 500- 750 essay in response to guided question on social and historical context of the work you are studying

2. Research on how sound, costume and lighting would be used to set the performance in a specific context

3. Blog posts on the themes and styles and how this has been used to inform your creative ideas and development

GUIDANCE FOR COMPLETING THE ESSAY IN THE RESEARCH FOLDER: 

Essay question:

How is the political and social context of the play relevant to its themes and meaning?

Writing Frame:

PARAGRAPH ONE:

·        What is the political/social background of the play? What was it like growing up in the 60s?

PARAPGRAPH TWO:

·        Consider the reoccurring theme of social inequality- can you find a link to key events that took place in the time period that the play was set? (1960S BRITAIN)

PARAGRAPH THREE:

·        What is Grammar School?

·        What is the 11+ exam? What is the rationale behind offering this to children?

·        What are the pros and cons of offering this to children? What impact does it have upon society? 

2. Sound Props, costume lighting and set

Research on how sound, props, costume and lighting would be used to set the performance in a specific context:

You should include your ideas on how you think we should use set, costume, sound and lighting to contextualise the piece in the 1960s. You should include images which illustrate your ideas and you should write underneath each image why you have selected them.

TASK 4: PRACTICAL SKILLS AND REHEARSAL PROCESS.-DUE IN 11TH JUNE

EVIDENCE REQUIRED:

1. 6 REFLECTIVE BLOGS OR VIDEO LOGS TO BE COMPLETED EACH WEEK IN WHICH YOU ANALYSE YOUR PROGRESS

2. 6 RECORDED REHEARSALS

3. 6 RECORDED VIDEO EVALUATIONS/DISCUSSIONS TAKEN FROM KEY POINTS IN REHEARSAL. 

4. A FILMED RECORDING OF YOUR PERFORMANCE IN THE SPACEMAN

TASK 5: EVALUATION- .-DUE IN 11TH JUNE

1. A written evaluation of the success of your final performance.
